How can I train my cats (2) to use an automatic litter box? They are too scared of the noise it makes, I think?

I have 2 cats. I purchased the Fresh Step Scoop Free Litter box. I am not able to get them to use the automatic litter box. The pamphlet tells you to leave te used litter box next to the new automatic litter box. Well, it smells gross after a few days... And, one cat will urinate elsewhere... while the other just goes in the dirty litter box. Please, help with any ideas. Thanks - much appreciated.

I’ve heard of a lot of failures with these boxes and I doubt you’ll be able to get the cats to use it if they are scared of the noise.
If cats decide they don’t like something, it’s pretty hard to convince them otherwise.
